Itinerary
Day 1: Waqrapukara
Cusco to Cruzpata ATV Base, Salt mines of Moray
This activity is available at two schedules:
Morning: from 6:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Afternoon: from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
We will pick you up from your hotel in Cusco and provide transportation to Cruzpata, the starting point where our base camp is located. There, you will receive a brief orientation on how to operate the ATVs and use the necessary safety equipment before starting the adventure.
Once ready, we will begin our ride through the beautiful landscapes of the Sacred Valley of the Incas, surrounded by mountains, farmlands, and breathtaking views of the Andean snow-capped peaks.
Our first destination will be the archaeological site of Moray, an astonishing place that showcases the advanced agricultural knowledge of the Inca civilization.
In Moray, you will observe its famous concentric circular terraces, which the Incas used as a natural agricultural laboratory to experiment with different microclimates and adapt crops from various regions of the Tahuantinsuyo. You will also learn about its ingenious irrigation system of canals and aqueducts — a remarkable example of ancient hydraulic engineering.
After exploring Moray, we will continue our route to the impressive Maras Salt Mines, located in the community of Pichingoto, about 20 minutes away. Also known as the “Salt Pools,” this site features more than 3,000 salt ponds, forming one of the most photogenic landscapes in Cusco. Since pre-Inca times, local families have extracted salt by hand — a tradition still alive today.
After enjoying this wonderful place and having time to take photos or purchase handcrafted salt products, we will ride back on ATVs to the Cruzpata base, where our tourist transport will be waiting to take you back to Cusco, concluding an experience full of adventure, culture, and nature.
