Tour Itinerary
We begin with a visit to the impressive Qoricancha, also known as the Temple of the Sun—one of the most important and symbolic places of the Inca civilization.
After this, we board our bus to explore the following archaeological sites located on the outskirts of Cusco:
-
Sacsayhuaman
This impressive fortress is strategically built on a hill overlooking the entire city of Cusco. It is famous for its massive carved stones, some as tall as 9 meters (30 feet) and weighing over 350 tons. -
Qenqo
Comprising Q’enqo Grande and Q’enqo Chico, the name means labyrinth or zigzag. This site had a purely religious function. On the outside, you’ll find a semicircular amphitheater with trapezoidal niches and a monolith shaped like a puma, which is approximately six meters long. -
Puka Pukara
Meaning “Red Fortress,” this site gets its name from the reddish color of its stones, caused by the natural pigments of the soil. It is believed to have served as a military post protecting Tambomachay. -
Tambomachay
Located very close to Puka Pukara, Tambomachay was designed for the cult of water and as a resting place for the Sapa Inca. It is also known as the Baths of the Inca. The site consists of a complex system of aqueducts, canals, and waterfalls flowing through the rocks.
After visiting all these sites, we return to the city of Cusco, where our service concludes.
