Overview

Ausangate is the fifth highest mountain in Peru. With its 6,384 meters high, for centuries it has received many names: “The roof of the Inca capital”, “Vinicunca” (Cerro de Colores), etc. Guardian of the Cusco region, located between the districts of Cusipata and Pitumarca, Canchis province, Cusco region, in the south of Peru. Ausangate is considered the most important mountain of the Andean cosmovision.

Itinerary

Day 1: Mountain of Colors (Vinicunca)

The tour starts early in the morning, we will stop by your hotel in Cusco between 04:00 and 04:30 am. to travel by bus for approximately 1:30 hours to the south, until you reach the district of Cusipata (3310 masl.) Where we can enjoy a semi-buffet breakfast, we will continue traveling for 2 hours more via trocha (ground road) until we reach the control post and start the walk (Kayrahuiry), before this we will make a small stop to pay our income (30 foreign soles and 15 Peruvian soles) The walk will last approximately 50 minutes, we will observe the typical flora and fauna of the Andes, among which the presence of llamas and alpacas stands out, We will pass through beautiful ravines and we will see snowy peaks, when we reach the viewpoint of Vinikunka o Mountain of Colors (5080 masl). Our guide will give us an explanation about the orography, ecosystem and color of the mountain, we can also take advantage of the moment to observe the mountain range of Vinikunka (5020 m), take the photos of the souvenir and admire the beautiful landscape. We will return along the same path to the point where we start the walk (KAYRAHURY) where our transport will be waiting to take us back to Cusipata, where we will enjoy the semi-buffet lunch. After lunch we will start the return trip to the city of Cusco, arriving between 4 and 5 in the afternoon. The last stop will be near the Plaza de Armas of the Cusco.
