We will visit the most important palace of the Inca period, Koricancha, known as the Temple of the Sun, which highlights the impressive engineering used in its construction.

Sacsayhuamán: Located 3 km from Cusco, this is an impressive fortress of monumental stones with extraordinary architecture. It is famous for its massive carved stones, some reaching 9 meters (30 feet) in height and weighing more than 350 tons. This is also the site where the Inti Raymi or Festival of the Sun is celebrated.

Qenqo: A ceremonial and ritual center, an amphitheater where sacrifices were performed.

Puca Pucara: An ancient tambo (resting place), which served as a military post and checkpoint along the Inca roads.

Tambomachay: Located 7 km from Cusco, this ceremonial center was dedicated to the cult of water, traditionally known as the sacred place of water and Andean duality.

We will then continue to the Archaeological Park of Pisac and its traditional market. Afterward, we will follow the Vilcanota River until we reach the town of Urubamba, where we will have lunch in a tourist restaurant.

After lunch, we will continue our journey to Ollantaytambo, known as the “Living Inka City,” where we will visit the imposing Temple of the Sun and the magical water fountain. Our tour will then continue with a visit to the Archaeological Park of Chinchero, and finally, we will return to the city of Cusco.

Pick-up will be from your hotel, and we will coordinate the time a few days before. We will drive from Cusco to the train station in Ollantaytambo. The train journey to Aguas Calientes takes approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes, following the Vilcanota River and passing by Inca remains along the way, including the traditional Inca Trail. In Aguas Calientes, our staff will take you to the bus station to head to Machu Picchu, where our guide will welcome you. We begin the tour with the pick-up of the group from their respective hotels between 8:00 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. We will travel for about 40 minutes to our first stop, Tipón, a large and impressive agricultural complex with 12 terraces that are still cultivated today. Its finely carved stone walls and advanced irrigation system, which still functions, are remarkable.

Next, we will visit Pikillaqta, an extensive urban center from the Wari Empire, featuring more than a thousand constructions including plazas, colcas (food storage), homes, temples, and long narrow streets with buildings up to four stories high.

We will then continue to Andahuaylillas, a typical Andean town from the colonial period, notable for its unique architecture. Its colonial-era Catholic church stands out with its beautiful decoration and mural paintings from the 17th and 18th centuries, earning it the title “the Sistine Chapel of America.”

On the way back, we will pass through Saylla, a small town near Cusco famous for its delicious pork cracklings (optional). We will return to Cusco around 3:00 p.m.

Recommendations

  • In Cusco:

For the visits to tours such as the Sacred Valley and the surroundings of Cusco, we include the 10-day tourist ticket. With this ticket, you can also visit some museums on your own.
The rainy season extends from December to March. On some days, the sky remains blue, allowing for a pleasant tour, as the landscapes turn an intense green.
The rest of the year is considered the dry season, with plenty of sunshine and pleasant days, but with intense cold in the mornings and evenings. From July to November, the weather is mostly sunny.

  • In Machu Picchu:

**Huayna Picchu**, the mountain in front of the Inca citadel, offers spectacular views. It must be reserved in advance and has an additional cost of $60 per person. The hike takes around 1 hour and 30 minutes and is moderately difficult — steep and demanding, but rewarding with excellent photo opportunities at the top.
During the rainy season, it is recommended to bring a change of clothes and waterproof footwear, as the weather can change quickly.
Keep in mind that during the high season, reservations for Machu Picchu and Huayna Picchu should be made at least 3 months in advance to ensure a smooth and enjoyable visit without setbacks.
