Overview
The impressive Inca Trail to Machu Picchu for 2 days is a cultural show where you can see and explore Inca cities, exotic mountains, lush primitive vegetation and extraordinary ecological varieties. The “old Inca Trail” crosses the National Park and the Puerta del Sol with unforgettable views of Machu Picchu, through a forest of clouds and finally to the subtropical vegetation. When making this route you will have the privilege of visiting the famous citadel of Machu Picchu twice, at the end of the first day you will enter through the Historical Sanctuary of Machu Picchu and the next day we will tour this wonder of the modern world more in detail.
Itinerary
Day 1: Cusco – Km 104 – Wiñay Wayna – Gate of the Sun – Machu Picchu
Very early in the morning we will pick you up from your hotel at 4:00 am and drive you to Ollantaytambo train station for the 6:10 am train (Expedition train service). After an hour and ten minutes of travel we will arrive at km 104 (2,100 m / 6,927 feet), here our walk will begin. At this point, we will ascend moderately for three hours towards the Wiñaywayna remote archaeological site, (2,650 m/8,747 feet). Enjoy the spectacular views of the Urubamba Canyon and the archaeological challenges. Then we will continue towards the Puerta del Sol. (2,730 m / 9,007 feet) Following the old remote path, we will obtain our first spectacular view of Machu Picchu, with all its splendor and majesty. As we approach the citadel of Machu Picchu, you will feel its mystical presence. Then, we will take our bus to Aguas Calientes, where we will spend the night in our hotel.
Day 2: Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu – Cusco
This day you will explore the historic sanctuary of Machu Picchu. We will start this tour very early to take the first bus at 5:30 am, to the archaeological site of Machu Picchu. Upon arrival, you will appreciate the sunrise over the archaeological complex. Take your time and be sure to explore every corner of this New Wonder of the World – an unforgettable experience! Your expert guide will then lead you through the ruins and its various main streets for about 2 hours. Afterwards, you will have time to explore the various spots such as the plaza of the world’s spiritual centre of esoteric wisdom, walk down the carved stone staircases and enjoy the beautiful views. Here are some of the alternative activities you may wish to do on your own: Climb Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain and appreciate the beauty and magnificent citadel of Machu Picchu (must be booked in advance and subject to availability). You will be given time to walk to the Sun Gate (free of charge). Other optional activities in Aguas Calientes include a visit to the local museum or hot springs (entrance fee required). When you are ready, you will descend to Aguas Calientes, have lunch on your own and then board the train at 14:55 for the return trip with the Expedition train to Ollantaytambo train station, where you will board our private transport for your return to Cusco city and go directly to your hotel.
